Inside The Psychosexual Relationship Between Superman And Batman

There is a litany of responsibility that comes with being a super-powered character in the DC Universe. From their inception, superheroes have represented the complicated balance that we, as readers, struggle to strike, albeit through a much more fun and exciting series of exploits. From the very start, romance and personal lives have provided some pretty entertaining fodder for that narrative. Are Batman and Catwoman secretly the gold standard all other heroes ought to be shooting for?

However, I think the first couple of DC Comics have it figured out.

Lois Lane to Wonder Woman’s Superman, Steve Trevor is the reigning The Batman/Wonder Woman romance is a favorite of longtime fans.

I find all of 3 of her relationships with Steve, Bruce and Clark underwhelming. Steve is just boring and I really do not like Bruce or Clark on professionalism alone, not even getting into the other things. I agree that Wonder Woman is her own character and should not keep being tossed around between love interests like some kind of prize. Like with all relationships, both people should be equal. I felt they had a real connection and understanding of each other and neither necessarily overshadowed the other.

I just like it. For the New, I do not have a real problem with the romance of Superman and Wonder Woman, given that that the new albeit messy continuity set it up well enough. I do know that neither will ever last in canon. Superhero comics are meant to keep going on forever and for a full ongoing romance between any two of the big three would mean that the two heroes titles would have to permanently become one until the characters were broken apart. Love interests in most superhero comics, or at least the ones that last, are the characters that were built up around that hero.

Lois Lane ends up with Superman because no one else is going to be using that character outside of ways that she’d fit into the world of Superman. Sue Storm ends up with Reed Richards because they were built around each other and meant to end up together.

Relationships between superheroes are always a little controversial. Whether they’re ones of romance, friendship, rivalry or all of the above, there’s often disagreement over how much superheroes should need each other, not to mention any discrepancy in storylines Still, there’s just no denying the chemistry between Batman and Wonder Woman. As two of DC’s most enduring superheroes, the two have been through a lot together across their recent live-action film appearances, popular animated TV shows and of course through all of their comic illustrated glory.

On the surface, they may seem like total opposites; Wonder Woman is a half-god warrior who fights for truth, peace, and love while the brooding Batman is a mortal with tons of gadgets and the occasional penchant for revenge.

When it comes to Superman and relationships, most people automatically think “Lois and Clark”. But Lois hasn’t always been the only woman Superman or Clark Kent has been romantically involved with. The most obvious inclusions are Lana Lang and Lori Lemaris. Then there’s Wonder Woman. With the announcement that Superman and Wonder Woman would become romantically involved from issue 12 of “Justice League” on sale August 29, , I thought I’d look back at previous pairings of this super couple throughout various comic book incarnations.

Superman and Wonder Woman announce their engaged to be married, and are seen kissing and declaring their love for one another in the story “Wonder Woman: Mrs. But it was all a ploy to save Lois from the Revenger. With Superman wondering why the two of them don’t kiss more often. DC has teased a Wonder Woman and Batman pairing in both the comics and cartoons, but has inexplicably shied away from coupling the two characters together. Perhaps its because of the logistical challenges, or because DC doesn’t typically put Batman in long term relationships, or maybe it’s because they know the unavoidable truth: once Wonder Woman goes Bats, there’s no going back.

Let’s take a look at the history, the chemistry, and the future of the most natural and obvious pairing in all of comics. However, Wonder Woman decided against it after realizing that the relationship could either go really well or really poorly.

Patty Jenkins has suggested that Wonder Woman might have a new love we see happen with Trevor is that Diana asks him on a date and he says no. Woman has been paired with Superman, Aquaman, and Batman.

While the recent “Superman Reborn” storyline merged the pre-Flashpoint Superman timeline with the New 52 version in such a way that most fan-favorite stories from both eras will remain intact, there is at least one major exception to that rule: the Man of Steel’s romance with Wonder Woman is no longer canon.

That’s according to a tweet from Dan Jurgens , writer of Action Comics and the man who most clearly laid out some of the big story elements that do still count in the Rebirth era during the two part “The New World” mini-arc. The pair started up a relationship at the end of the first year of The New 52 era, and it lasted until the death of the New 52 Superman. The romance was controversial among fans of both characters; both Superman and Wonder Woman have long-term love interests who readers felt were being pushed aside for the story, and there were other reasons as well.

The idea of Superman and Wonder Woman having a romance is nothing new; it’s been explored, discussed, or flirted with for decades. Shortly after the previous big Superman reboot, in the mids, John Byrne wrote Superman as having developed a crush on Wonder Woman shortly after they met. It blossomed into a first date, in Action Comics , after which Superman realized that the two were wrong for one another; while Wonder Woman was fundamentally of the gods, Superman was fundamentally a mortal man.

There would be nothing to stop Wonder Woman dating a human man, but one like Superman, who is so often seen as a god, created a disconnect neither of them could quite get past. The idea of Superman and Wonder Woman ending up together “happily ever after” was explored in Mark Waid and Alex Ross’s Kingdom Come , although it was one of a few things that Waid has said he did not ever intend to join the main DC Universe.

Every once in a while somebody will make a choice and defend it as, ‘Well, it’s the way it was in Kingdom Come ,’ to which you just want to go, ‘No!

The Many Loves of Wonder Woman: A Brief History Of The Amazing Amazon’s Love Life

Wonder Woman and Superman have long seemed like they’d make a nice match they both have blue eyes and blue-black hair, they’re both superheroes with similar powers, they wear matching costumes. But maybe they look a little too much alike to work? In any case, since one or both of them are usually romantically entangled elsewhere, any dalliances between Superman and Wonder Woman have been very brief and occurred in their pasts or in alternate timelines where Lois Lane is dead. In official DC canon, however, Superman and Wonder Woman have always remained just really good friends that is, until this October’s Justice League 12, in which Geoff Johns and Jim Lee will see the two heroes begin what’s promised to be a substantive relationship.

Superman and Wonder Woman have been dating in DC’s comic line that writers used to tease between Wonder Woman and Batman felt a lot.

With his flowing cape, bulging muscles and mild-mannered alter ego the character they idly sketched was an instant hit when he first appeared in comics 80 years ago. Within three months a million copies were sold by the DC company, which took a risk on the creation of the teenagers from Ohio: writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster.

“It’s like a good first date; one can’t be sure where things are going to go, but so far it’s Batman is my favorite but Superman and Wonderwoman, or at least this.

The Wonder Woman movie has finally arrived, and the feedback so far seems to say that it was worth the wait. We already knew we would be seeing more of Diana in Justice League , but now there is already word about there being a Wonder Woman 2. So that means more adventures, more Amazons, and more about Diana’s life; including her romantic life. It’s a common comic book trope that heroes have to juggle a relationship with saving the world.

Wonder Woman’s love life is a little more iffy, though, since she doesn’t really have an enduring partner who she’s consistently been with. So, we figured why not play matchmaker and see if we can find someone for the Amazon Princess. We obviously wouldn’t expect or want Diana to go through all of these relationships in the DCEU, but maybe there’s one among the bunch that will be the perfect match. Have a look and let us know who you would like to see Wonder Woman end up with!

This suggestion isn’t very serious, but it would be a funny little nod for DC to include in their movies. The similarities between Marvel’s Thor and DC’s Wonder Woman have not been lost on comic fans over the years, with a lot of people looking at them as counterparts. The joke of it aside, it would make sense that Diana might have an interest in the gods of the ancient civilizations since they are such a big part of her life. Just a passing mention of how Diana thought Thor was attractive, but that she would never be allowed to date gods outside of the Greek pantheon could make for a funny line.

Though it would also give the other men in her life some tough standards to live up to. Steve is the most obvious candidate for this topic, but that doesn’t mean he should be excluded from being mentioned either.
